Democracy depends on the active participation of each individual. Especially in times when political decisions have a significant impact on our future. We would like to encourage you to use your right to vote and actively participate in the democratic process on 1 September 2024 as part of the Thuringian state parliament elections. Every vote counts!
The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar also emphasises this concern on its Instagram channel (@bauhaus_uni ). To this end, it is running the campaign »Who are you going to the polls with?«, which was devised by visual communication students in the summer semester of 2024. In the project module »Democrazy?«, the students developed campaign formats and films to encourage people to vote - with the very specific aim of increasing voter turnout in Thuringia.
»Who are you going to the polls with?« is based on unique field research in which students randomly visited selected locations in Thuringia to explore local attitudes towards the upcoming elections. They came across interesting stories, such as a village whose inhabitants make a pilgrimage to the neighbouring village to go to the polls together. This story inspired the idea of portraying voting as a communal and natural activity.
The »Who are you going to the polls with?« campaign does not ask the question of »whether« to vote, but »with whom«. With a wink included: the campaign subtly conveys that voting as a democratic participation is not just a duty, but a privilege - and that it can become a social experience that we create together.
Let's set an example and go to the polls - together if you like!
