Collection of literature on the topic of racism

As part of the thematic focus »University critical of racism«, the Diversity Department has restocked the glass display case at the service counter of the University Library. The display case now presents a collection of introductory and further literature on the topic of racism and (intersectional) criticism of racism. New acquisitions by the University Library have significantly expanded the collection on this topic.

Racism is a phenomenon that affects society as a whole and is also structurally anchored in the university system. Racism exists on several levels at the university. It ranges from derogatory or discriminatory remarks to a lack of support and understanding for those affected, from a westernised and white-dominated academic perspective and choice of literature and topics to a lack of representation of BIPoC, particularly among staff.

The literature collection offers introductory literature, such as exit RACISM (2020) by Tupoka Ogette or White Fragility (2018) by Robin DiAngelo. In addition, there is further literature on various theories and social/geopolitical contexts (e.g. Critical Race Theories, Post-/Anti-/Decolonial Studies, Indigenous & Native Studies), literature on various forms of racism (e.g. anti-Asian racism, anti-Semitism, racism against Romani and Sinti persons, anti-Muslim racism etc.) as well as literature on intersectional topics (e.g. Black feminism, intersections of race/gender/sexuality). Most of the books are available in the original language, English.

The selected books and films in the collection are intended to inspire and help members of the university to take a closer look at the topic of racism, to consider it in their own academic or artistic work or to include it as a topic in seminars.

We look forward to working with you to further expand the collection of literature on the subject of racism. If you have any suggestions for acquisitions, please send them to us.

All books in the display case can be used, borrowed or reserved at the University Library. You can find an overview of these and other books on the subject of racism in the digital literature collection. Here you will also find e-books that you can download or read online.
