On 25 September 2020, the Studierendenwerk Thüringen inaugurated the new replacement building for the day-care center »campus.kinder«, Haus 1. The new three-storey timber-frame construction caters to members of both of Weimar’s universities and can accommodate up to 60 children. It is situated on the southern end of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s campus, in close proximity to »campus.kinder«, Haus 2, a complementary day-care facility that opened several years ago.
Already since 31 August 2020, the day-care center »campus.kinder«, Haus 1, has been operating from the new replacement building at Belvederer Allee 5b (formerly Merketalstraße 46). Here, staff are taking care of up to 60 children between the ages of 2 and 7 (Haus 2 also offers child-care for children as young as 6 months). The new building has an elevator and all rooms are accessible, so that children with disabilities can move freely in the entire building.
With the construction of the new facility, the total capacity of the day-care center »campus.kinder« (Haus 1 and Haus 2) has increased by 5 places, as per public demand. In total there are now 90 places for children of members of both of Weimar’s universities on the campus of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
The close proximity of Haus 2 and the newly-constructed Haus 1 also allows for a closer cooperation of the pedagogical teams. Moreover, the transition from the day nursery to the older groups of children will be easier for children. The day-care center is complemented by the flexible child-care service »bauhäuschen« in the building at Amalienstraße 13. There, children of university-members can receive care for up to 10 hours per week.
