The Bundeskonferenz der Frauen- und Gleichstellungsbeauftragten der Hochschulen (bukof) took the annual motto »FairNetzt Euch!« as an opportunity to draw attention to the difficult working conditions in university administrative offices.
The work in administration and the field of scientific support has changed significantly over the last few decades. As part of the structural changes, the demands and expectations of these jobs in science and university administration have increased, but are not reflected in a new definition of the job description. The strategic action fields of study, teaching and research are often given much more weight in the universities than the areas of administration and technology. This is also reflected in the different recognition of importance for the respective status groups. We have to close this gap!
As part of the campaign »FairNetzt Euch mit den Hochschulsekretariaten«, bukof is calling upon university staff to show solidarity with administrative staff, a structurally disadvantaged group within the administration, and to fight together for fair working conditions in the university administrative offices. In the position paper »Endlich Entgeltgerechtigkeit und faire Arbeitsbedingungen in Hochschulsekretariaten schaffen!« (»Finally Establishing Fair Pay and Fair Working Conditions in University Administrative Offices«), bukof is also calling on University Directorates and science policymakers to improve the situation. Support is provided by the German Women's Council.
Tina Meinhardt (Equal Opportunity Officer of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar) says, »We are asking the staff of administrative offices to contact the Equal Opportunity Office so that we can get an idea of the situation at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar«.
The administrative staff are also being asked to participate by submitting a photo, video message or text to the bukof Social Media campaign under hash tag #FairNetztEuch – colleagues from Bielefeld, Ludwigshafen, Essen and other universities have already started submitting posts (https://walls.io/u5yiq). For each post, participants are asked to answer the following two questions:
You can send your replies as videos (mobile phone video of maximum 90 seconds) or text messages (maximum 320 characters) to geschaeftsstelle[at]bukof.de, with elke.waehrisch-grosse[at]uni-due.de or the speaker and colleague of the MTV commission, Alexandra Kühnen (alexandra.kuehnen[at]uni-bielefeld.de) in cc. The contributions will then be posted on the bukof social media channels and Facebook and Twitter.
At the end of the year, bukof will publish a catalogue with a recommended course of action for university management to improve the implementation of fair pay and fair working conditions at universities.
