In most cases, it is not possible to exchange larger amounts of data by e-mail because the size of file attachments is limited to 10 or 20 MB by most providers.
In order to nevertheless exchange larger amounts of data with staff from other universities or institutions, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar uses the «GigaMove» service. The service is provided by RWTH Aachen in the German science network.

Background and interesting facts
Why «GigaMove»?
The SCC has created the infrastructural prerequisites for participation in the «GigaMove» service by joining the authentication and authorisation infrastructure of the German Research Network Association (DFN-AAI).
Joining the DFN-AAI is part of the SCC's strategy to increasingly provide part of its services in cooperation with other scientific institutions.
With «GigaMove» , the files remain in the area of the German Science Network, whereby the authentication of the users takes place in the respective home institution. A prerequisite for participation in the services is the guarantee of very high data quality. This requires that the change of user status is communicated promptly, especially when a user leaves the university - a particular challenge for administration and faculties.
