The University Publication Office of the University Library accepts the deposit copies as part of the publication obligation for dissertations and habilitations. It issues the certificate required to receive the doctoral certificate and sends it to the contact person in the respective faculty.
The University Publication Office provides information on general questions and submission formalities for printed and digital documents.

Submission as a electronic document
Your dissertation in electronic form will be published in Digitale Bibliothek Thüringen (DBT).
Publishing is possible only with a valid university account. Authors and submitters must login via Shibboleth. If you do not have a currently valid university account, please use the form at the end of this page.
If you are considering having your thesis published by a publishing house in the near future, you should clarify the possibility of prior or parallel online publication with the publishing house.
For theses being published in a publication series by the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar publishing house (Verlagsgruppe arts + science Weimar), the work may be published in parallel on the publication portal in the version submitted for the doctoral examination under a contract formalised between the university and the publishing house.
If (initial) publication is on Digitale Bibliothek Thürigen, doctoral candidates are free to also publish their work in print format via a publishing house.
In addition to the online publication, 6 printed copies (for faculties of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Media) or 4 printed copies (for faculties of Architecture and Urbanism and Art and Design) must be submitted in bound form.
Publication on the publication portal involves the following steps:
- Clarify the fundamentals of copyright and licensing
- Make sure to save file(s) in PDF/A format without copy or password protection
- Choose a creative commons 4.0 licence
- Enter the metadata for the work in the publication form
- Submit the file
Your document will be released after the university library runs a formal check. You will be able to make corrections until the moment of release.
If you do not have a valid Bauhaus-Universität Weimar university account, you can submit your publication here.
Submission of a publishing house publication
If you opt for publication by a publishing house, please note the following:
- Your publication’s imprint must state that it is a Bauhaus-Universität Weimar thesis.
- The year of the oral examination must be stated.
If the title is changed by the publishing house, please note this in the imprint or another suitable location (e.g. by stating ‘The thesis was submitted under the title: ...’)
Three publisher’s copies are required to fulfil the publication requirement.
Since the amendment of the German Copyright Act (UrhG) in 2014, the authors of scientific contributions are entitled under specific conditions to publish these works in online repositories as a secondary publication, even if this right is not provided for by the publication contract concluded with the publisher of the initial publication. The publication portal facilitates this secondary publication.
Bachelor and master theses, other final theses
Final theses (bachelor, master and diploma) by Bauhaus-Universität Weimar students will be accepted if publishing has been recommended by your supervisor or another member of teaching staff and the thesis has been graded "good" or better. Please include your recommendation in the upload or send it directly to hss[at]ub.uni-weimar.de.
