How do we want to live in the future? How will we make our lives more sustainable, socially fair and beautiful? The New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative of the European Union made these questions the focal point of a festival in order to discuss them with the participants. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, which is an official partner of the NEB, organized a Lab of Ideas on Friday, 10 June 2022, calling on all interested parties to discuss, inspire and experiment. Almost 150 participants attended lectures, contributed their ideas and experimented in workshops.

Prof. Jutta Emes, interim president of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and Marion Walsmann, member of the European Parliament, welcomed the participants. »We want to develop a sustainable future together and have an impact on society«, emphasised Prof. Emes. That is why the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is an official partner of the New European Bauhaus initiative. The remarkable thing about this is that the University itself wants to reach out to all people in Europe through interdisciplinary collaborations to seek answers to the challenges of climate change. The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar had recognised itself in the EU’s approach. Marion Walsmann, for her part, underlined the high value of the initiative in the EU Parliament - precisely because it is not an elite project and involves civil society.
Afterwards, six rounds of lectures and discussions began, as well as several workshops and walks on the trail of the historic Bauhaus.

Invited artists accompanied the Lab of Ideas 2022 by documenting the highlights of the individual events in their distinctive styles.
What has improved in Weimar in recent years? What are your favorite places? How could Weimar become more climate-neutral? Anyone interested could contribute their opinion on these questions at the Lab of Ideas - in the courtyard of the University Library and on Theaterplatz.
