What is the meaning of our cultural heritage in the face of global changes in the age of digitalisation and climate change? What kind of demands does it place on science and society? At the International Heritage Centre of Bauhaus University Weimar, we foster international and interdisciplinary cooperation that can address these questions and develop jointly new concepts and approaches.
Heritage encompasses objects, structures and traditions from the past as well as the social and societal processes that determine their current meaning. In this context, our interest in things and structures from the past that are actively perceived as heritage is not nostalgically motivated, but rather future-oriented.
This new academic centre serves as a coordinating organisation for heritage research, teaching and outreach, and aims to cooperate with municipal, regional and international partners. It is open to all members of the Bauhaus University Weimar as well as external partners. The IHC also provides an institutional base for independent projects, especially for postdoctoral fellows and visiting researchers.
