Student Government

The StuKo (Student Government) is the cross-faculty, central, university-wide committee representing the student body. It is not directly elected by students but is equally composed of four students from each of the four Student Councils.

The StuKo (Student Government) adopts resolutions and makes decisions on issues that affect the entire student body. These include, for example, the student budget, applications for cultural and sports funding and general representation of the student body vis-à-vis the University Directorate – both internally and externally.

There are certain units (responsible, for example, for finances, dissemination of information, coordination of initiatives, etc.) affiliated with the StuKo (Student Government).

These units work together with the Student Government, provide it with information and often bring to its attention any burgeoning problems. The many initiatives at the university (SpaceKidHeadCup, Kontor&Stift, Café s140, etc.) are also affiliated with and supported by the Student Government.

The altogether sixteen representatives that form the StuKo (Student Government) are delegated from their respective Student Councils and typically meet on a fortnightly basis.

Of the four delegated StuKo representatives from within a faculty, one is also delegated to StuKo’s executive board. Each Student Council thus delegates one member to the four-member StuKo executive board. Within the scope of weekly meetings, the executive board discusses specific and urgent concerns of the entire student body and prepares the meetings of the Student Government. The four executive board members are the most important contact persons vis-à-vis university offices.

By the way: this system of student representation at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is the only one of its kind nationwide!
