The Thuringian University and Studierendenwerk Card, or »thoska« for short, is an ID card used by students and employees at Weimar’s higher education institutions.
It is necessary to extend the validity of your student ID card at the beginning of every semester after paying the semester contribution (and long-term study fees, if applicable). Students who are not in Weimar and cannot validate their Thoska can identify themselves with either an enrolment certificate or a 2020 summer semester study certificate together with your photo ID or passport.
Validation and Charging terminals:
If you’ve lost your thoska or it no longer functions properly, please notify the staff of the Campus.Office immediately (studium@uni-weimar.de). If you find a lost thoska card, we ask you to drop it off at the letter box of Campus.Office or the INFOtake in Marienstraße 15.
The credit on your card is like cash in a normal wallet – which means that if you lose your thoska, your money is gone. If you wish to retrieve credit stored on a defective card or found card which you had reported lost, you can have the amount transferred to your bank account upon request. We ask you to submit the request form along with your card at the INFOtake.
The chip on the thoska only contains as much personal information as absolutely necessary. The information is stored in separate sectors, each of which can only be accessed with a special key. This ensures that only those data fields required for specific applications can be read at any one time. Only numbers and digits are stored on the chip.
This data includes your enrolment or employee number, library user number, status code and thoska expiration date. The status code is a single digit which indicates whether the card holder must pay student, employee or guest prices at the Studentenwerk payment terminals.
The terminal can read the chip from no further than max. 10 cm away.
Students and employees of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar receive the thoska (fist card) for a deposit of 20 Euros.
If you lose or destroy the thoska, you can obtain a new one from Campus.Office for a fee of 10 Euros.
If you have re-registered or on a leave of absence, you can access and print your certificate of enrolment as much as you need from any computer. To print the certificate of enrolment, you first have to log onto the BISON portal, where you can also find the course catalogue. You can also change your address in this way.
