The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar took part for the first time ever in the Intercultural Week Weimar with the Diversity Office, the International Office, Bauhaus Internationals, Welcome Weimar Network and the International PhD Network. This year, the theme of the nationwide event was »Zusammen leben, zusammen wachsen« (»Living together, Growing Together«) and took place from 20.9.2020 to 4.10.2020.
Under the motto »Wünsch Dir Weimar« (»Make a Wish For Weimar«), a poster exhibition in the city and radio report on Radio Lotte drew attention to the experiences and wishes of international students, BIPoC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) and refugees in Weimar. A central concern of the students and refugees interviewed for the campaign was the desire for more intercultural exchange and opportunities to talk to local people in Weimar. A special edition of the Language Café during Intercultural Week took this wish into account and invited local people in Weimar to digitaly practise speaking German with international students, learn foreign languages themselves, and exchange ideas about cultural similarities and differences. An interactive city walk »Decolonize Weimar«, organised by Jun-Prof. Julia Bee and students of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, introduced participants to Weimar's colonial history and examined the connection it has to institutionalised racismtoday's structural racism.
The nationwide event is organised annually in Weimar by the City of Weimar’s Commissioner of Foreigners' Affairs and the Committee for Foreign Residents, and took place this year for the 31st time.
