Dear Bauhaus-Universität Weimar Alumni,

While I had the pleasure of meeting some of you at summaery 2023, I would like to introduce myself briefly to those I haven’t met yet. In June 2023, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar’s Senate ratified the new Presidium. As a result, I am pleased to introduce myself as Vice-President for Social Transformation at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. I wish to combine this with an invitation to participate in the »Weltoffenes Thüringen« initiative, which was established in early summer of 2023.

The upcoming European and state elections in 2024 are a source of concern for many Thuringians, who are worried about the stability of democracy, human rights issues, and open-mindedness in the state. The »Weltoffenes Thüringen« initiative sends a message that there are many individuals, institutions and associations in the state who support a different, democratic, diverse and open-minded Thuringia. By doing so, we want to increase the visibility and voices of the 70% of people who support democratic electoral options, especially in locations where they may feel alone outside of the bigger cities.

The initiative aims at addressing stakeholders from the education community, civil society, economy, faith communities, culture, sports, science, (welfare) associations, etc., thus making visible how many people in Thuringia support the values of democracy, diversity and open-mindedness.The initiative is deliberately decentralised and networked so as not to be a one-size-fits-all campaign and it supports individualisation, allowing those involved to customise the initiative to fit their agendas.

The initiative hopes to provide advertising materials (banner templates, share pic, posters, stickers, roll ups, etc.) that can be used across the state by those interested. Events that have been planned or are in the development stages can also take place using the »Weltoffenes Thüringen« slogan. We are currently working on a supporting programme at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. If you are interested in getting involved, please feel free to get in touch with me. ulrike.kuch[at]uni-weimar.de

You can find further information on the initiative's website.
You can also sign there: thueringen-weltoffen.de

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would be very pleased if you were there.

With best regards from wintry Weimar,
Yours Ulrike Kuch
