How do I get into writing, be it alone or with others? What can go wrong with an academic paper? How do I prepare for the final presentation of my art project? What do I need to know before publishing my texts? We explored these and other questions at the 10th Night of Writing on 13 June 2024. Under the motto »Rewind« we dedicate ourselves to the eraly stages of writing especially the moments of failure as an irreducible part of the writing process.

Let’s talk about your publication @ PhD meet&greet

Publishing is an important step for doctoral candidates and can be a creative playground, but also a necessary "evil". The relaxed exchange of experiences focussed on very different publication formats, from self-initiated online journals and co-editing with LUCIA Verlag to doctoral publications in an institute publication series. If you would like to find out more about the projects and experiences, please get in touch:

Lilli Hallmann - »Auf dem Weg zu einem Ort der Erinnerung. Der Aufbau der NS-Medizinbürokratie in Weimar«, published by Julia Bee, Lilli Hallmann, Franziska Klemstein and Jannik Noeske as part of the student project LUCIA VERLAG, 2024

Ann-Kathrin Müller - Online-Journal: »Working Titles. Journal for Practice Based Research«. Editorial Team: Xenia Fink, Ann-Kathrin Müller and Gabriel S Moses; workingtitles@gestaltung.uni-weimar.de

Dr. Elodie Vittu - »Recht auf Stadt. Von einem theoretischen Konzept aus Frankreich zu "Recht auf Stadt"-Bewegungen in Lateinamerika und Europa«, Publication of the dissertation as part of the IfEU publication series via BAUHAUS Universitätsverlag.

The new section of the BRS newsletter presents news from the Pro.Doc Doctoral Council, provides insights into the doctoral experience at our university and points to available resources.

The Doctoral Council introduces itself
"Pro.Doc" is the name of the Doctoral Council of our University. We are eight doctoral candidates who are elected every two years by the doctoral candidate body to represent our interests in the committees and bodies of our university. We are currently involved in STEP in an advisory capacity, helping to revise the mental health programmes at our university, networking with other doctoral councils in Central Germany and nationally, and advocating for the further development of doctoral conditions at our university. We also organise an annual general assembly for the whole doctoral community. There we report on our work and can exchange ideas directly. We can always be contacted via doctoral-council@remove-this.uni-weimar.de.

The diagram shows the structure of the various bodies and committees in which we, the members of Pro.Doc, participate. Looks complicated? We'll be happy to introduce you to the intricacies of committee work at our next General Assembly!"

Submissions still possible - call extended!

We welcome individual case studies, comparative approaches that examine differences between programmes, programme areas, parts of the country or types of cities and areas, as well as overview and analytical contributions.

Safety on the Campus

Photo: Thomas Müller

The summer months invite us to spend the evenings outdoors with friends, fellow students and colleagues. The campus of our university is a good place to do this. Unfortunately, however, our campus has not always been used by people with peaceful intentions.

The Bauhaus-Universität Weimar wants to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, doctoral candidates and staff. We are therefore doing everything we can to increase the sense of security on campus. Please be vigilant and help us to create a safe environment for everyone.

Report any incidents that you observe and are concerned about to safety-first@remove-this.uni-weimar.de

DAAD's PRIME (Postdoctoral Researchers International Mobility Experience) supports international mobility in the postdoctoral phase through fixed-term positions at German universities. This includes a 12-month posting abroad and a six-month integration phase at a German university. Fellows gain an important qualification step with their independent research project and the stay abroad for their career in academia.

Application deadline: 30 August 2024
