University Library circulation desk reopening on April 21st 2020

Starting on Tuesday, April 21st 2020 the University Library will reenable book and DVD checkouts and returns. Initially this service will be available only to university members Mondays through Fridays between 10 am and 2 pm. The library responds to frequent requests to be able to access materials for teaching and research. Public areas of the library themselves will remain closed. Information and administration requests will not be handled on site – please contact us by e-mail or by phone at 49 (0) 36 43/58 28 10.
Effective immediately, you may request materials from the University Library's entire collection in the online catalogue (OPAC) as well as the Discovery Service (BibSearch). Materials will be held for pickup for five days starting the day after your order. To enable quick pickups, they will be registered to your account immediately. You will continue to be able to renew items up to ten times. Journals may not be checked out, and no reservations can be made for the time being.
New students, university employees and professors may register a library account using our online form. We will activate your account at the circulation desk. Please bring an official ID including a picture.
The University Library observes the necessary hygiene conditions. We ask all visitors to follow the general guidelines relating to the corona pandemic and cover their mouths and noses. To enable quick pickups, the library entrance and exit will be separated, with the entrance door from Schützengasse serving as the only entrance to the building.
After resolutions made by the German chancellor and heads of state on Wednesday, April 15th 2020, as well as the Thuringian state government's subsequent decisions on the same day, have made certain relaxations possible, it is considered by the University's Board of Governance and the library director as an important step to contribute, by reopening the circulation desk, to making teaching and research still possible at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar in summer semester 2020.
