1. New opening and service hours from July 1st

By introducing self-service terminals, the university library at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar has long planned to be able to noticably extend its opening hours into the evenings and weekends. The process has been delayed by the pandemic’s restrictions, but July will finally see its end. These will be the library’s opening hours from July 1st 2021:

Monday to Friday:    9am - 11pm
Saturday:    10am – 6pm

During opening hours you will be able to enter the open access areas, make use of study spaces and, thanks to the self-service terminals, borrow and return items.

The university library simultaneously introduces the following service hours:

Monday to Friday:     9am – 6pm

During these hours the service desk on the ground floor and an information desk in the Limona building are open, and we’ll be happy to assist you any way we can in your research and in using the library.
Please make use of our service hours to register library and inter-library loan (ILL) accounts, top up your ILL account, reserve study rooms if you’re a student at Bauhaus-Universität, and pick up journals and inter-library loans.
If you need assistance and are unable to visit the library during service hours, please write an e-mail to: info(at)ub.uni-weimar.de

3.Thuringian RDM-Days with online workshop on June 25th

The Thuringian competency network research data management will hold the third incarnation of the Thuringian RDM-days from June 21st to 25th 2021 under the tagline »Data documentation: a love note to the future!«
We would especially like to point out the online workshop on June 25th, held by the RDM liaison at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, which concerns the work-in-progress new guidelines on handling research data and will encompass a guest lecture by Daniela Gawehns (Leiden University) about reproducibility of research results with the programming language R.
Further information on the event and the registration form can be found on this site.

4. Summary: The »Long Night on academic writing« was collaborative, interactive and inspiring

More than 500 visitors from 23 countries participated in the 7th Long Night of academic writing at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar on June 10th 2021. Next to long-standing features – such as events on research techniques, Open Access, research data management and writing advice – ,exchanges were held on the collaborative draft of the EU application »Neues Europäisches Bauhaus« as well as the practice of writing in a university context. A high amount of attention was directed towards the livestream with the open reading »Vorworte oder: Der Blick hinter die Kulissen«, which was held in close cooperation with the Internationales Kolleg für Kulturtechnikforschung und Medienphilosophie. The new format »Wissen erobern ONLINE«, developed and realized in direct exchange with local high school students, was particularly well received. Feedback like »The event got us in the mood for reading and writing.«, »That was a wonderful experience and course«, »We thought it was great and had a wonderufl inspiring evening« show that the event with its mix of infotainment and interactive workshops is perceived as highly enrichting. We’d like to thank all participants, the whole team and our guests for the wonderful cooperation rich in ideas! A gallery from the open reading and the talk »Schreiben – Räume, Lust, Handwerk« will be available shortly on the event website.
Here you can find a retrospective on the Long Night of academic writing.
