1. Library visits and Corona measures
We are pleased to be able to welcome you to the library as far as possible without restrictions, despite current Corona measures! In the interest of all, however, we would like to ask for your support and draw your attention to the current version of the university’s hygiene plan. This came into force on 14.10.2022 and is bindingly applied in the buildings of the Bauhaus University Weimar and thus also in the university library. For your own protection and for the protection of your fellow visitors, please wear a mask (OP, FFP2) wherever the minimum distance of 1.5m cannot be maintained. If we all behave responsibly, nothing will stand in the way of a safe visit to the library and the use of our services. Thank you!
2. Research trainings start right on time for the winter term

After a successful welcome week - with approx. 260 participants at the central Audimax introduction to library use and approx. 350 first-year students at the library tours - subject-specific trainings will now being offered again in our PC pool as part of university courses. The professional handling of information resources is trained, sometimes combined with the use of literature management software. Right on time for the start of the semester, research courses are on the programme both for first-year students of media culture as part of the text analysis seminars and for students of civil engineering, construction management, architecture and urbanism. If you are interested in these courses, please contact our subject librarians.
3. Success for KOALA project: Weimar University Library supports fair Open Access
The KOALA project (»Konsortiale Open-Access-Lösungen aufbauen«, Building consortial solutions for Open Access) will convert the first journals and publication series to collaborative OA funding starting in January 2023. Six titles from the media and social sciences, including the OA journal »sub\urban«, which the Weimar University Library has supported as an institutional member since 2019, will be jointly funded by nearly 70 different institutions for three years. Weimar University Library is one of the supporters, enabling the journals and series to operate sustainably at no cost to authors and readers. All articles published during the funding period are freely accessible worldwide.

4 Positive balance of the IV. Weimar silent film retrospective »Branntwein, Tabak, Kino!«

More than 520 cinema-goers attended the nine events of the IV. Weimar Silent Film Retrospective IV. Weimarer Stummfilm-Retrospektive »Branntwein, Tabak, Kino!«, which took place from 29 August to 8 September 2022 in cooperation with the Kunstfest Weimar, the Lichthaus Kino, the City of Weimar and the Bauhaus University Weimar and in whose organization the university library is involved through its deputy director, Dr. Katrin Richter. Incidentally, preparations are already underway for the Vth Weimar Silent Film Retrospective next year under the motto »Lob dem Lichtspiel«, which will again take place with lectures and talks as part of the Weimar Art Festival 2023.
5. Library stays dark at night for the first time and saves energy
This week, the library's automatic night lighting was taken off power. The twilight function through three skylights facing Steubenstraße, which previously shone into the Weimar night sky, was also switched off. After 17 years of operation, the library building remains dark at night for the first time.
This measure should be seen in connection with the university's current energy-saving efforts, to which the library is also making its contribution. As usual, we will keep you informed about further measures.
6. Open Access Week 2022: Open for Climate Justice
Under the motto »Open for Climate Justice«, the international Open Access Week will take place from October 24 to 30, 2022. Numerous institutions and actors worldwide will use the decentralized event week to disseminate information on the topic of »open access« to scientific results, to draw attention to new trends and developments, and to network the community.
At open-access.network, an overview of the various events taking place during this year's Open Access Week in German-speaking countries is being compiled. This list is constantly being expanded.

7. Another closing day in October
Due to the public holiday, the University Library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 31, 2022 (Reformation Day).
8. Save the date: »Lange Nacht der Wissenschaften Weimar|Weimarer Land« on 18 November
Together with its scientific institutions, the city of Weimar invites you for the third time to a Long Night of Science. Take a look behind the scenes of the participating institutions, research facilities and companies on 18.11.2022 from 6 pm. The programme of the Bauhaus University Weimar is already online. The university library is also participating with guided tours and lectures on various topics.
