After successfully putting the literature collection »Queer.Lit« and »Ukranian.Lit« on exhbition, the university library in Weimar puts another socially relevant themed literature collection on display this winter semester in »Erinnern gestalten«. As before, a digital list of literature complements this display.
In cooperation with the project »Geschichte der Bauhausstraße 11« (The history of Bauhausstrasse 11), the collection provides a platform for public discourse on history politics and remembrance in Germany. The materials collected in the display case firstly represent the current state of research on the history of architecture, planning and medicine relating to National Socialism in Weimar and Thuringia. Secondly, they provide perspectives on new readings of the politics of remembrance in the recent and not-so-recent past. We try to represent the debate in a selection of defining works that introduced central terms and concepts as well as more recent studies that are being received in science and journalism. Not least, we collect materials that show the threat of right-wing extremism by pointing out continuities in symbolism and practice. They show that research on and reminders of National Socialism are not ends in themselves and certainly not obsolete, but more current and important than ever.

2. Exhibition gives insight into the textual work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe

On the occasion of the publication of the volume »Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Gesammelte Schriften« (Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Collected Writings), which was presented in the lounge of the library building on November 15, we are giving an insight into the textual work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in a small showcase exhibition on the second floor of the library (reading area).
On display are original monographs and journals from various creative phases of Mies van der Rohe. The oldest text is from the magazine »Frühlicht«, which was published by Bruno Taut after the First World War. His contribution to the publication »Internationale Architektur« (Bauhausbücher; 1) also falls into the Weimar period of the Bauhaus. A special feature in the context of this small exhibition is a vinyl record containing a biographical conversation from October 1964.
The texts were selected by Prof. Dr. Jasper Cepl (Chair of Theory and History of Modern Architecture). The exhibition is shown during the opening hours of the library until 23.12.2022.

3. New access method to technical standards: Perinorm to be replaced by Nautos

The new standards database is named Nautos and is available as of now from within the university network. It is the successor of the Perinorm database and offers the familiar research options for German and international standards as well as full text access to DINs and VDI guidelines.
Nautos and Perinorm are provided by Beuth Verlag. At the moment both databases are run side by side; however, by the end of 2022 Perinorm will no longer be available. We recommend switching to Nautos immediately and changing your bookmarks or saved links.
Please find more information on the university library's technical standards services on our website.

4. »Building Types Online« - after successful trial now permanently available through the university library

An extensive search structure provides access to a wide range of information on architectural design theory. There is a focus on residential buildings, but other building types are featured, such as schools and kindergarten buildings, office buildings, museums, sacred buildings, libraries, industrial and research buildings. Buildings are depicted in interior and exterior views, blueprints and other plans, largely vector based and downloadable. Please find more information and access the database (from within the university network) in our database information system DBIS.

5. DFG funding provides even stronger support for Open Access publishing

Funds to the amount of EUR 124,000 were granted for the period of 2013 to 2025 as part of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft‘s »Open-Access-Publikationskosten« (Open Access publishing cost) program. In addition to financing Open Access articles, the DFG now also supports Open Access monographs that result from DFG supported projects or in such networks. The university library will also use the funding to further develop its publication support services. You can find more information on Open Access publishing and contact persons on our website, and more information on DFG supported funding in this press release.
