The time capsule in the shape of a lexicon containing 205 word entries and 260 pages collects answers to the question: What do we need for the future?
The time capsule was created as part of the Bauhaus.module »Heritage Futures - Time Capsule« taught by Dr. Giorgia Aquilar at the Chair of Historic Preservation and Architectural History in the summer semester of 2022. The final exhibition »Afterwor(l)ds - Time Capsule« at the Summaery 2022 invited university members and the public to write their own words and definitions on folded paper. These entries were collected in 26 empty slide boxes - one for each letter of the English alphabet - which were made available to the project by the Archiv der Moderne (Archive of Modernism).
The »Book of Records« resulting from the project represents a material legacy and was sealed during the Long Night of Science on 18 November 2022 and handed over to the university library. It will now remain sealed until 1 January 2030, when it can be opened again by the next generation of students and staff. The date chosen is based on the climate goals of the UN and the European Union and points to the threat to our cultural and natural heritage as well as the urgency of social change in the way we treat our planet.

2. »Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals« - now available on the University Network

Effective immediately, the Avery Index is offered within the University Network, providing access to over 638,000 references from over 2,800 journals on architecture, architectural history, archaeology, building design, historic preservation, interior design, landscape architecture, and urban planning. In addition to journal articles, interviews, book reviews, exhibition catalogues, are evaluated. The database also contains an index of obituaries of important architects (Averys Obituary Index) with more than 15,000 entries and the ten-volume Burnham Index to Architectural Literature of the Art Institute of Chicago (1870 - ca. 1965).
Using Shibboleth or a VPN connection, university members are able to use this service outside the university network.

3. MathSciNet - New database on offer

Bibliographic data and abstracts of journal articles and books, as well as new publications in the field of mathematics - all this is offered by the MathSciNet database of the American Mathematical Society, which the University Library now makes available via the University Network.
MathSciNet is the online version of the journal »Mathematical Reviews« and the specialized bibliography »Current Mathematical Publications«.
Approximately 1900 international series and journals since 1940 and approximately 47,000 references from the period 1810-1940 are evaluated.

4. How the Bauhaus was rediscovered in the GDR - Alumni talk with Michael Siebenbrodt at the University Library

In a conversation with the Director of the University Library Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz, the Bauhaus expert Michael Siebenbrodt reports, among other things, on his studies at the former Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen Weimar (Weimar University of Architecture and Civil Engineering), his various professional contacts with the Bauhaus in sometimes difficult constellations of contemporary history, as well as encounters with important personalities of the Bauhaus. The reconstruction of the Bauhaus library, which was a special concern of his, is also discussed.
The 26th Alumni Talk was recorded at the University Library and can be viewed online.

5. »RE:action - RE:Constructed« - an exhibition against racism and discrimination

Nine artists, most of them former students of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, have dealt with the topic of racism and discrimination against the background of their own experiences. The Diversity Department of the Bauhaus University will be showing their contributions from 20 December 2022 to 31 January 2023 in the upper foyer of the university library building.
The previous exhibition, which was shown in public space in Weimar last year, was vandalised twice. The new exhibition »RE:action - RE:constructed«, created as a reaction, has since been shown at various locations in Weimar and is supervised by the association »WE united« of the AWO Mittewest-Thüringen.
In the context of the exhibition, workshops and a lecture on the topic of racism will be offered in early 2023. You can keep up to date on the Diversity website.
If you have any questions about the exhibition, please contact Miriam Benteler, the Diversity Officer at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
