1. Weltoffenes Thüringen – #thueringenweltoffen
Along with Bauhaus-Universität Weimar as a whole the university library specifically supports the »Weltoffenes Thüringen« initiative and holds its goals especially dear. Pluralistic democracy and the rule of law are an essential prerequisite for library work. To accept and welcome all different kinds of people is daily life in the university library. We interact with one another peacefully and respectfully as a matter of course as much as we reject prejudice, exclusion and hatred.
2. Stream video at the university library – movies, documentaries, theater, dance, opera and more
Currently the university library provides access to several streaming services.
You will find a unique selection of German, European and international arthouse films, shows and ambitious documentaries on filmfriend and AVA.
The Bloomsbury Video Library allows you to access a wide thematic spectrum of international films, documentaries and interviews. As well as that, Bloomsbury’s Drama Online Library provides an additional large selection of theater and opera performances, interviews and instructional videos.
ON.ARCHITECTURE constitutes a special collection of original videos on architecture and design. The videos show interviews with and key projects by architects and designers.
You can access all platforms from within the university network, and additionally as a university member from outside the network using a VPN connection or Shibboleth.
You can find more information and the links to all streaming services in our database information system (DBIS).
3. Inter-library loan news – benefit from direct electronic delivery for articles starting in March!
From March 1st 2024 journal articles requested by inter-library loan will no longer be provided as a paper copy at the service desk but as a download link by e-mail. This kind of electronic delivery was previously unavailable as compensation for the authors was not ensured, but legal agreements between participating libraries (represented by the head office of the GBV Common Library Network) and VG WORT have now been made. In the future, paper copies will be the exception to the rule.
We’re happy to be able to provide you with an up-to-date, quick and location independent way to access your requested articles in the future.
4. Bautabellen für Architekten – now available online
In the online service »Bautabellen digital« you will now find both »Schneider Bautabellen für Ingenieure« and – newly added – »Schneider Bautabellen für Architekten«. From within the university network you’ll be able to access both these indispensable standard works for architecture and engineering.
With this digital service we expand our printed collection: both books are also available in print in the library in the most current, the 25th, edition. Our catalogue will tell you where to find Bautabellen für Architekten and Bautabellen für Bauingenieure.
5. »Ursachen und Haftung bei Bauschäden und Baumängeln« - switching to online service
As of January 1st 2024, The handbook »Ursachen und Haftung bei Bauschäden und Baumängel« will no longer be updated in print, but is being continued as an online module titled »Gutachtenerstellung Bauschäden und Baumängel leicht gemacht«.
The university library provides access to this service from within the university network in the WEKA Business Portal.
6. From vision to application: exhibition illustrates 3D printing throughout time
Until April 4th 2024 you can still see the exhibition »MOSCHVER – SHELTER FOR THE HOMELESS« in the university library entrance area. It is dedicated the so called Monolithisches Schichtverfahren, more familiar today as 3D printing. Based on the thoughts and ideas of architect Helmut T. Weingart and civil engineer Dr. Jörg Stapel from 1986 the exhibition spans an arc to contemporary areas of application in industry and design.
All interested parties are invited to visit the exhibition during the library’s opening hours. Prof. Tom Lahmer (Stochastik und Optimierung) will be happy to answer questions by e-mail at tom.lahmer[at]uni-weimar.de.
7. Library closing days in March
We’d like to announce well in advance that the library will be closed from March 25th until 27th 2024 due to essential maintenance of the building’s electric infrastructure.
You can always find our current opening hours as well as extracurricular closing days and hours on our website.
