1. Database information system redesigned

As of October 15th the database database info system DBIS has received a new design. Layout and UI were redone completely to be more modern and intuitive. Additionally, the new version is also available in English.
DBIS helps you find the right database for your research needs. Free databases as well as our licensed ones are listed and linked directly. The new version of DBIS is the result of a project supported by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). In broad cooperation with domestic and international libraries, the University Library of Regensburg has developed the database info system into a web service closely aligned with users’ current requirements. We were among 370 participating libraries.

2. New scan tent in the copy room for easier scans with your smartphone

The copy room on the main building first floor now features a scan tent to make scanning with your smartphone easier and improve results. Your smartphone can be placed on a platform at the top of the tent to guarantee the perfect angle and distance to the subject. The tent is equipped with white LED strips to ensure even lighting if daylight conditions don’t suffice. Finally, you may be pleased to learn that this method no longer requires a USB drive.
Free apps like DocScan (Android und iOS), Genius Scan (Android und iOS) or Tiny Scanner (Android und iOS) allow you to set individual options and provide handy features like OCR (text recognition). Do give it a try!

3. »READING THE WORLD | DIE WELT LESEN« - photo exhibition

Reading is not just a way to learn but also to experience – much like staying abroad. This year, the photo competition organized by the International Office of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar focused on places of knowledge, reading and learning and asked you to show us your favorite places during your stay abroad, or in Weimar if you are an international student: libraries, universities, urban or landscape spaces.
A jury representing various different areas of Bauhaus-Universität has selected 30 photos from almost 80 submissions that can now be seen in an exhibition in the university library entrance area. Prizes will be awarded to the winners on November 11th at 4pm, and a public favourite will be selected as well – you can help decide who should receive this special award!

4. Alumni talk № 32 with Liz Bachhuber now online

Prof. Liz Bachhuber and Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz at the alumni talk in the Weimar University Library

In 1993 Liz Bachhuber was one of the first professors at the newly established faculty of design at the Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen (HAB). Over the course of 25 years – until she received emeritus status in 2018 – she shaped the fate of the faculty and the university. In a talk with university library director Dr. Frank Simon-Ritz she speaks on her artistic career and her experiences at what was to become Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
The alumni talk with Liz Bachhuber is part of the series of talks on university history organized by the alumni office in cooperation with the university archive and the university library.

5. New TKFDM Coffee Lectures topic: EU acts

The Thuringian Competence Network Research Data Management continues its Online Coffee Lecture Series in October. This semester is dedicated to EU acts on the legalities of dealing with data in the future. Every month there will be an event on Zoom that is free of charge to attend.

6. Long Night of Sciences in Weimar – Library open until midnight

Pipettes, microscopes, testing labs and artificial intelligence – is this how science works? The Long Night of Sciences on Friday, November 15th, will answer all these questions and more. From 6pm until 12pm anyone is welcome to tinker, try things out, observe and ask questions. At Bauhaus-Universität Weimar projects and institutions in many different places will open their doors – the university's schedule is already online. The university library will be open until 12pm that day.

7. Library closed on Oct 31st 2024

As there is a holiday in Thuringia on October 31st, the library will be closed for that whole day.
