GMU:Intermedial Approaches: Difference between revisions

The goal of this course is to consider how working interdisciplinarily can support and strengthen an experimental media art practice. Working in a „bottom up“ manner in a studio, lab or field setting encourages discovery and allows one to take risks, and work intuitively with material, thought and concepts. That said, when experimenting with living and unstable media, artists open themselves to material bevahiour that is sometimes out of their control - in weird, wonderful and confounding ways!  

In this intensive workshop, we look at how representing studio experiments and artistic research through varying media formats can encourage trust and adventurous perspectives towards the unknown dimensions of an experimental art practice. In Interdisciplinary Approaches to Experimental Practices we will work across mediums as a means to highlight and reveal „big-picture“ questions and ideas embedded in the artistic process. How is artwork transformed when a subject or topic of artistic research is observed through different or multiple media lenses? How does reframing artistic research from one format to another change how the work is interpreted in a presentation context?
