Revision as of 17:02, 14 September 2010
Super Cell is a public engagement project being developed for the iGEM competition 2010.
It aims to create an awareness for presence and possible futures of synthetic biology products by putting already existing and far-out in the future applications next to each other on the shelfs of a fictional synthetic biology supermarket.
The supermarket will be developed as webshop and a physical display for the igem competition.
A compilation of goods that are already commercially available will be presented and explained alongside with products inspired by previous igem projects and products developed by the students.
Ideally, the format will be developed into an ongoing and open platform for new products and product speculation in the area of synthetic biology reaching beyond iGEM 2010.
The concept and its elements will be further developed and realised by the team in the course of the project.
Supermarket
"Supermarket" is the theme and the key element of the project. We are using the appearance of a retail facility that offers consumer products to communicate the implications and possibilities of synthetic biology for every day life. This metaphor will be developed and adapted to the projects purpose.
One important aspect is the "Supermarket look&feel". What is it like to be and to shop in the synthetic biology supermarket? What is the customer experience? How can the idea of a supermarket be evoked, experienced and manifested in the minds of its visitors?
The supermarket will primarily be realized in form of a web platform. It is its central interface element. Therefore a distinct visual language and a Corporate Design will be created and the platform will be technically developed and implemented.
Though the supermarkets appearance complies with established web shop formats, its communicative goal is fundamentally different: To stimulate the engagement with synthetic biology, Its possibilities and implications, by means of offering exemplary "consumer products" in a retail environment. read more...
Products
The synthetic biology supermarket will offer a range of consumer products, that employ the means of synthetic biology.
The range will cover already available goods, products that are implied by iGEM projects of previous years and items developed by tour Team.
All offered products will have a clear relation to synthetic biology.
The Products will be represented by the use of images, videos and textual product descriptions. The role of synthetic biology in each product is stressed complimentary to explaining product usage and features.
The product range shall be continiously developed beyond the iGEM competition 2010, aiming to create an active open platform focussing on the possibilities and implications of synthetic biology. read more...
