Fachmodul, Werkmodul
Title: Printed Electronics Silkscreen: Electronic Upcycling
Lecturer: Florian Wittig
Credits/SWS: 6 ECTS, 2 SWS
Maximum Number of Participants: 15
Course Language: English
First meeting: April 13, 13:30, Marienstraße 7b, Room 105
Date: Thursdays, 13:30 until 15:00
Venue: Marienstraße 7b, Rooms 105 and 002
Description
The term "Upcycling" describes a process in which old products are given additional value by modification or transformation. The technology of screenprinting allows us to print on a large variety of materials. Since a few years the Department of Interface Design has been involved with printed electronics, this semester we want to test conductive ink on discarded objects to create a new value for them.
In this class we will talk about the characteristics and possibilities of printed electronics in general, we will learn and apply the basics of screenprinting, and take a look at what kind of objects can be printed on, using a silkscreen and conductive ink. (This class is no substitute for the introductory courses of the university's print workshop, as we focus only on printed electronics!)
Participants of this class are asked to choose a certain item and enhance or transform it by printing a circuit with conductive ink on its surface. The conductive printed lines should not only be used as an electrical wire, but as a stylistic element as well. The resulting object can then be combined with a microcontroller or other electronic components, according to the participant's ideas and background knowledge. Go to your local flea market, find an old object you like and make it your upcycled prototyping breadboard!
Admission requirements / Voraussetzung zur Teilnahme an der Veranstaltung
Basic knowledge regarding microcontrollers and electronics components is helpful, but technical pre-requisites are not required. Concurrent enrollment in other IFD courses offering is strongly encouraged.
Registration procedure / Anmeldung
Please register at the faculty's module registration on Tuesday, April 4th. Students who are not able to take part in the faculty module registration, please register until April 3rd by email with the Subject Printed Electronics ElectronicUpcycling to: florian.wittig (at) uni-weimar.de. Your email should contain the following information:
- name, surname
- program and semester (Studienprogramm und Fachsemester)
- wether you are a Bachelor or a Master student
- matriculation number (Matrikelnummer)
- valid email address @uni-weimar.de (no other mailing addresses will be accepted) Why?
