This module introduces the use of a DIY biolab and its uses in relation to artistic practices. The module teaches:
- How to follow safety rules in our lab.
- Preparation of the growth media for the organisms, propagation and how to work with cultures. Examples include Acetobacter, Euglena gracilis, and Physarum polycephalum (Slime mold).
- Hands-on use of equipment in the bio lab, such as pipettes, clean benches, centrifuges, microscopes and incubators.
The course is mandatory to gain access to the lab for individual work. It will be conducted over two days.

Grading
The successful completion of the course is the attendance of the block seminar and the documented work on GMU wiki. The documentation may contain text, video, images, sketches, sound, and other digital formats.
