Zeitmaschinen / Time Machines

Beschreibung

Was ist Zeit?

English Description

What is time? How can time be visualized?

In this interdisciplinary collaborative project between the department of Art & Design and the Media Department the focus is on ideas and methods of representation of time. Besides traditional calendar systems and measuring devices such as clocks, the course aims at more experimental methods and debates that result in “machines” exemplarily visualizing time.

The close collaboration of graphic design, computer science, media art & design and media cultures is meant to broadly cover the theme and to allow perspectives, which foster the exchange and lead to the formation of transdisciplinary teams.

In the weekly colloquium participants will meet other students, assistants and professors from the following areas: Visual Communication / Graphic-Design (Prof. Weisbeck), Computer Science / Mobile Media (Prof. Höpfner), Computer Science / Usability (Prof. Bertel), Media Art & Design / Interface Design (Prof. Geelhaar + Michael Markert)

Voraussetzungen

Active participation in the plenum (including a self researched 15 minute seminartalk) and a minimum of 3 individual consultations is expected. The final result of this course is the presentation and documentation of an individual art or design work related to the courses subtopics. A written documentation in PDF format is required at the end of the term. General course language is English. Some discussions in the joint colloquium will eventually be conducted in German language.
