Many contemporary artists such as Christian Boltanski, Emily Jacir and Walid Raad work with picture archives as part of a practice concerned with memory or commemoration. In the Fachmodule, students will research, create and exhibit their own picture atlas as a result of a comprehensive investigation into the origin and history of images and strategies and effects of real existing and virtual classification systems. Short excerpts of seminal theory about (visual) concepts of memory from Platon to Derrida will as well be discussed in the process.
