The current climatic situation in our cities is defined by overheating, that creates heat islands, pollution and a clear divorce from nature. Here is where passive greenery comes into play. When speaking of passive greenery, one is alluding to moss, lichen and algae that don’t need special care in order to thrive. The project will at first have a look at the sustainability of current green facades, then find existing habitats of passive green in the city as a mean of inspiration and from there design a façade system that incorporates those findings. | |||

Hello! I'm a Master Mediaarchitecture student. During my first semester I did a group work on raising awareness about groundwater loss in Thuringia called "Circle of lights". Last semester I proposed a project called "Pro-jection/ Ob-jection" aimed at reframing historical monuments with the case study of W. Churchill.
Current Semester Project:
Speculative design for Green Passive Facades
The aim of the project is to create a design for a façade system for passive greenery.
The current climatic situation in our cities is defined by overheating, that creates heat islands, pollution and a clear divorce from nature. One answer to these issues would be to integrate more greenery, more nature into the build environment. Not only does green absorb carbon emissions, it also reduces the heat load, can filter pollutants and create a sense of wellbeing.
Since a couple of year greenery incorporated into the architectural design has gained more momentum. One can think of Patrick Blanc’s facades, the Bosco Verticale in Milano or the extensive green facades in Singapore. However, all these facades require a lot of care and maintenance in order to upkeep their appearance.
