Description
R&D: Advanced Prototype Research and Development Lab is an intensive hands-on workshop supporting the realization of interactive functional prototypes within the context of the Interface Design and MediaArchitecture Project Modules. Candidates will be tasked with transforming mature semester project proposals into real-world proofs-of-concept using contemporary methods and processes for additive/subtractive manufacturing, printed electronics, physical/embedded/pervasive computing, as well as mixed reality and tangible interfaces.
Admission requirements
- Concurrent enrollment in the Interface Design or MediaArchitecture Project Modules, or instructor permission
- A mature semester project concept and production roadmap is a prerequisite to participate in this module
- Some technical experience with the technologies and processes necessary for the realization of the prototype is required
Application and registration procedure
Due to limited capacity, enrollment in this module will be conducted through a selective application process.
The application period is open between 1 November and 30 November 2019.

- one-page motivation and practitioner statement
- one-page CV and catalog of relevant technical skills
- one-page abstract and production roadmap describing the semester project concept to be realized
Late or incomplete applications cannot be considered.
Candidates will be informed of a decision by mid-December 2019 by email.
Evaluation
Successful completion of the course is dependent on regular attendance, active participation, completion of assignments and delivery of a relevant semester prototype. Please refer to the Evaluation Rubric for more details.
Eligible participants
Qualified MFA Medienkunst/-gestaltung, MFA Media Art and Design, MSc MediaArchitecture candidates who are currently enrolled in the Interface Design or MediaArchitecture Project Modules
