PDCON:Start/Music, performances and artworks

From Medien Wiki

The Pure Data Convention 2011 will include several concerts in very different locations with different technical specifications and different aesthetics.

We decided to make one call for all these concerts. The commitee will determine appropriate works for the particular settings, taking into account the preferences of the applicant. Please check back regularly for the most recent updates on our website: http://puredata.uni-weimar.de

In addition to the concerts, there will be space for installations and artwork and some experimental settings during lunch-time.

We are looking for music and artwork that has been produced or composed entirely or mostly using Pure Data.

There are separate calls for:

  1. Concert pieces and Live-electronic pieces for the evening concerts
  2. Live Performances during lunchtime
  3. Sound installations and artwork

Deadline for all submissions: Monday June 13, 2011

The concerts

We are seeking works that are interesting as a sonic or musical experience in themselves, due to the composition techniques used, or due to the way the sounds are generated and/or manipulated. They can be playback only (controlled/mixed live by the composer) or performed live, either purely electronically or in combination with traditional instruments (or anything that makes sound). Supporting visuals are also possible.

Submissions will receive preference if they satisfy the technical specifications of the venues where the concerts will take place. One concert is in a modern concert hall featuring a 32-Channel Acousmonium, another is in a church with only a small speaker arrangement (besides the organ). The commitee will carefully choose the apropriate works for these locations. Two more concerts and the final concert and party will take place in a more informal environment. It is not yet decided whether or not there will be multichannel setups for these concerts. If you feel your work is particularly suited for one of the locations, please let us know in your application.

Submitting your work by post:

Every submission by regular mail must contain the following:

  • A CD or DVD with the work as is it to be played and/or displayed at the conference. Sound file format can be WAV or AIFF (32 bit float 48 kHz) or Audio-CD (16 bit, 44.1 kHz). Video file format can be ogg-theora, Quicktime, MPEG.

For multi-channel or ambisonics playback we can accept as well as single multichannel files or a set of mono files for each channel

  • A CD containing a 2-channel downmix of the musical pieces
  • A short presentation of the work
  • A short biography of the creator(s)
  • A signed copy of the last page of this document in which the creator(s) agree(s) to the conditions set for the concerts
