Live Audio Cues
Artist: Koray Tahiroğlu
Improvisation is an act of expression and it can be considered as a transformation of energy into thoughtful action, which derives from the past experiences of the musician. There is a conscious awareness of what has happened, what might happen and how a strategy for the next action might develop. Improvising interactively turns human musical interaction into continuous activity, exploring new formations of sounds and listening consciously. While this activity involves musician responding immediately and spontaneously within a conscious awareness, conscious awareness does not result in full control or strictly structured strategies. On the contrary, in Live Audio Cues performances, conscious awareness causes more to investigate the unexpected through voluntary actions, which evolve into a source for creating a musical dialog with interactive performance system.
Live Audio Cues is an audiovisual real-time improvisation for live electronics and gesture controlled musical instruments, interfaced with torch and mobile devices. Interactive performance system acts together with the performer’s control gestures and responds to the current state changes of the system components. This piece explores noise as a musical element carrying information for the aesthetics of the music. Hannah Drayson created the abstract visual layers of this piece.
