This course is designed as an introduction to BioArt unfolding through contemporary concepts and practices in DIY biolab. The introduced artworks will give an idea on how BioArt emerges and how sciences interact with arts. Along the artworks we will discuss questions such as How organisms share their time and space with other organisms? What are the borders between living and non-living? Can, for example, a robot be alive? How to understand a transgenic organism? Might a fully synthesised organism endanger human species?
The work in biolab will focus on the analysis of living systems and their relations to habitat. We will experience in using lab tools such as microscopes, centrifuges and incubators. We will practice in taking care of bacteria, protists and fungi. In addition life-like processes will be followed while growing crystals and drawing simple automata patterns.
Students will be expected to develop an idea in relation to one or the other living organism.
