ALLE:ELLA

This is a data art project that explores the intersection of personal imagination, cultural perception, and artistic expression. We seek to capture the diverse interpretations of the name "Ella" by inviting students and citizens to draw a portrait based on their personal impressions of the name. The name Ella was chosen because it is currently one of the most popular names for babies in Thüringen and Germany as a whole. Feel free to partake in the project by drawing your own rendition of ELLA.

ALLE:ELLA AT SUMMAERY 2024

1 SET UP AND MATERIALS USED

Materials used: nails, tape, white thread, wooden clips, around 200 A6 ALLE:ELLA papers, 10 pens in the colors red, orange, yellow, green (dark and light shade), blue (dark and light shade), purple, pink and brown;

2 tables, 4 chairs

The exhibition consisted of a large wall, where ELLA portraits could be clipped on the thread installed in the walls with a wooden clip. Alternatively, ELLA could also be fixed on the wall by using tape provided on the table. On the right side of the wall, you could look at “ULTIMATE ELLA”, an ELLA generated by 101 ELLAs that we collected in Weimar before the exhibition. ULTIMATE ELLA is depicted with 5 different stages of transparency. On the right of ULTIMATE ELLA, 18 different merged ELLAs, sorted by color and other attributes, can be seen.

On the leftmost side of the wall, there is a tutorial on how to participate, in both english and german. The same tutorial can be found on the table.

On the two tables, that create an island-situation in the exhibition room, there are also a lot of A6 ALLE:ELLA papers for people to create their own ELLA, as well as the 10 differently colored pens. There is also a container for the pens, tape and the clipboard we used while collecting ELLA portraits in Weimar. Around the table are four different chairs for people to sit down while they draw.

ALLE:ELLA was exhibited during 11.07-14.07at the Bauhaus Summaery as a part of the D∀TAD∀TAD∀TA as artistic material exhibition in M14. During this period we collected 190 drawings of ELLA. Thank you to all participants!

All the ELLA we have collected are also scanned so we have them in a digital version as well. The first 101 ELLA have already been posited on Instagram (@ alleelladata) and they were also saved on our drive. If you have any questions or want to contact us email @ allecolonella.
