Experiment #1

LSA extraction out of Ipomoea Tricolor (Morning Glory, Heavenly Blue) using a CWE (Cold Water Extraction Method)

Similar to the Ergot Sclerotium (Mother-grain), growing in infected rye and barley, the seed of Ipomoea Tricolor contains Ergot Alkaloids. There are many Ergot Alkaloids in the seeds, some of them being poisonous and other having entheogenic properties. The main entheogenic Alkaloid is Ergin, more commonly known as LSA (Lysergic Acid). Ergin is - other then the poisonous Alkaloids - water soluble.

To separate LSA from the harmful (water isoluble) Alkaloids, the seeds are ground to a fine powder that resembles rough flower and soaked in distilled water. Distilled water is used, so that no Chlorine can harm the Ergin and that the mixture does not get contaminated. Once the seeds are ground it is important to keep them in the dark. Light and also heat will damage the Ergin. The mix from the seed flour and water is placed in the fridge and kept there for ca. 4 hours, giving the LSA enough time to dissolve into the water. After that all the seed remains are filtered out of the water. The better the seeds are filtered out, the less harmful the potion is in consumption. The harmful Ergot Alkaloids tend to upset the stomach in the come up of the entheogenic journey. By doing a CWE, these side effects are being minimised.

Understanding the process of the CWE will become even more important when working with the Ergot Mother-grain. In that case the toxicity is not studies and understood in the extend that it is in Ipomoea and could possibly be more dangerous.

As of 06.11 11pm

The process of dissolving the Ergin is finished and the phase of separating liquid from seed-residue is in process. I filtered the liquid through different cloths and cotton fabrics, but the liquid still has a quite strong brownish color. By the color it can be suspected, that there are still many unwanted parts of the seed in the liquid. On the top there is also a film of fat swimming.
