I'm a 3rd yr MFA in Visual Arts---I will have my thesis show in December 2013

I am really obsessed with interior spaces of architecture—the stuff you don’t pay much attention to. To give an example, the interiors of storage spaces like a boiler room. I’m enthralled especially when I find clumps of dust, mold, or calcium build-up. It is possible to see time in these things—the structures become more than static buildings—one can begin to recognize them as living entities.

The spaces and sets I construct often draw from my interest in "hidden spaces"

In most of my performances I perform blind. I wear a mask. I’ve used masks as a tool to become focused to point of absorption in any moment. I find that I have a lot in common with the early exponents of Butoh in the way that I explore gesture. Ushio Amagatsu, choreographer, dancer and designer of the 1970s Japanese born troupe Sankai Juku, hits me the hardest! Amagatsu’s work is one of the most powerful moments I have experienced. He doesn’t operate in language. I’m just mesmerized—in the moment.

Proposed Idea for this Class

I'm really looking forward to collaborate incorporating the use of biophysical sensors that capture the low-frequency acoustic vibrations produced by the bodies of performers.
