The game “OR” is a speculative game that assists the contemplation of possible scenarios related to future work environments where automation-related developments intersect with social decisions. The name “OR” alludes to the diversity of future possibilities that results from choices. What if? Or this? Or that? The term “OR” contrasts with the comforts rendered by automation, which reduces active decision-making and direct action.
The game presents itself as a possible means of discussions and debates. It suggests that the future of work in a post-automated society is by no means a fixed utopia/dystopia, but rather a future that is amendable via
present design decisions. The process of playing the game helps engage with ethical questions related to post automated futures, social dilemmas and positive and negative outcomes entangled within these futures.
