- Designing for Humans is a course designed to teach students about the concept of design thinking as a tool for solving problems and introduce them to the concepts of behavioral science and systems thinking in creating human-centric solutions while considering human needs and requirements.
It invites students from diverse study programs and faculties to overcome traditional boundaries of domain-specific thinking and work in small interdisciplinary groups together to solve target problems collaboratively. The focus lies in understanding human needs deeply through empathic Design Thinking to develop solutions that cater precisely to those needs. Moreover, the session will touch into the systematic study of human behavior and decision-making, known as Behavioral Design, aiming to improve user experience within the solution.
- Students are free to choose their own topic, but working on the following topics is encouraged:
How can we make space at m18 (Marienstraße 18) more welcoming for international students? Creating a user-friendly door security system for m18. How can we encourage people to use the m18 website more? Visualizing ideas for an app that enhances the student experience within the university.
- Through this course, students will gain a fundamental understanding of design thinking and will be able to analyze local and global system influencing factors, map individual experiences, plan exploratory research, and apply psychological lenses in problem-solving. Furthermore, students will learn to formulate and test conceptual solutions in real-world scenarios, as well as develop the ability to showcase the application of their ideas to a wider audience.
