Immersive VR Tools Empower Citizens in Urban Planning at Bauhaus Participation Lab Event
The Bauhaus Participation Lab (BPL) aims to empower citizens in urban planning processes by enabling them to explore and interact with city planning scenarios in Virtual Reality (VR). The project focuses on understanding, evaluating, and transforming urban designs. Citizens can view plans from relevant perspectives, such as a pedestrian’s viewpoint, comment on and assess proposals, and exchange diverse opinions. They are also encouraged to actively shape the future by integrating their ideas directly into the 3D models, contributing creatively to the planning process.
During the Long Night of Sciences, numerous visitors tested the innovative tools and experienced the future of the area behind Weimar’s main train station on a 1:1 scale in VR. This hands-on event provided valuable feedback for improving both the planning concepts and the technology, bringing us one step closer to more inclusive urban development practices.
