As a partner in society, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is responsible for representing democratic values and helping shape society. Making research, teaching, and transfer activities visible is essential for productive social exchange.

By introducing annual themes, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is committing to the goal of honing its reputation and increasing the visibility of these activities and highlighting their importance to society and the community. The terms »Beyond« and »Now« represent a linguistic bridge that connects the past, present, and future. The objective is to address the past with present questions and to align ourselves towards the future.

In 2025, 2026, and 2027, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar will be focussing on the research areas of Environments – Technology – Humans.

2025 | Beyond Now ⸺ Environments

The 2025 annual theme emphasises projects and partners at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar that carry out research, art, and teaching that deal with the constellations of living beings, their surrounding material and immaterial environments, and their design.

The emphasis is on projects that focus on the topic of the environment and aim to benefit society by engaging with this topic and making this added benefit tangible in a high-impact public format. These projects also reflect the identity of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar through their interdisciplinarity. They also ideally involve working together with external partners.

EVENT SERIES

QUESTIONS ON THE FUTURE OF SOCIETY

This event series addresses core themes of social transformation processes and the role universities play in these processes. The format involves renowned experts and draws upon local, regional, national, and international perspectives, bringing them together with the views of students and the Weimar audience.

FUNDED PROJECTS

The 2025 annual theme »Beyond Now — Environment« emphasises projects and partners at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar that carry out research, art, and teaching that deal with the constellations of living beings, their surrounding material and immaterial environments, and their design. The projects funded by the Presidential Board will be implemented between April 2025 and March 2026.

BAUHAUS.MODULE

TEACHING EVENTS

In the »Bauhaus.Modules«, students from all degree programmes have the opportunity to expand their studies with interdisciplinary courses offered by students or lecturers from other departments. As part of the ⸺ Environment annual theme, the programme has been expanded to include four thematic modules.
