Jena Saale Horizontale
The Saale Horizontale is a trail around Jena, crossing the dry and sunny mountain slopes. Jena is unique in having more than seven nature reserves in the city's nearest vicinity.

Meeting Point 1: Hauptbahnhof Weimar, 13:15 from Platform 1.
- The train leaves at 13:21 as EB 80893 to Gera from Platform 1
- To get to the Hauptbahnhof:
- At least 25 minutes from the Uni to the Hauptbahnhof by foot
- or catch a bus at Goetheplatz
Meeting Point 2 Jena: Westbahnhof, Arrival: ~13.41, Platform 2
Main Meeting Point 3 Jena Paradies: 13.50 - 14.00 at the rear entrance (to the Paradies Park)

- There are lockers (2,50 to 3,50 € per 24 hrs) if required
- There's a bakery inside the station for drinks & food (no refreshments on the way, sadly)

Length/Duration:
- from/to Jena Paradies: 9,5 km, estimated 3:45 h (without stops)
Back to Weimar:
- 15 min walk from Jena Paradies to Jena West
- RE (~xx.38) or EB (~xx.16) back to Weimar Hbf
Things to pack:
- Bottle of water
- Light rain jacket (just in case…)
- Appropriate footwear (really important, the trail at the Sonnenberghorizontale and the Lutherkanzel is narrow and steep!)
Weather:
- It is expected to be a beautiful and mostly sunny day, but it still might be fresh in the shadows (~10 to ~19 °C)
- IMPORTANT: In case of (severe) thunderstorms we will abort this field trip. Please check this site on Tuesday noon to see if there are any changes!
