Accessorizing Nature

The course "Design with Mushroom" offered the possibility to work in the Biology Laboratorium with a Fungi called Fomes Fomentarius.

By letting the Fungi grow in a controlled setting, the outcomes were endless to use its amazing structure for artworks.

This Project is called "Accessorizing Nature".

WHY (purpose of my idea of the project:

The motivation behind this project is to show appreciation for nature by designing wearable accessory in the form of jewlery and having it designed around mirrors.

Being in love with jewelry and the special meaning they can possess, made this project come to live. The mirrors are a symbol for beauty and reflect both the creator and the created.

How:

Process of the making

The finished jewelries are made to be worn with condifence. The mirrors are there to integrade them as a practicality into the day to day life.

Knowing that a lot of hard work got put into this project, not only from crafting it, but mainly from the Fungi to grow so perfectly, makes it so unique and holds great energies.

What makes this product so special:

By using a living organism for the production of a product, it ensures an eco-friendly material and gives an organic structure.

It is subjectively aesthetically pleasing and at the same time incredibly light weight. It gives off a felty feeling when touched, which makes it very soothing to sense. Overall a phenomenal material to work with.

Building with mushrooms is a website that shows various methods to use Fomes Fomentarius in even further ways then accessories.

What do you think about this topic of using nature to adapt to human lifestyles?

HOW TO END??

But the question here is, can we humans define such acts of creation as morally justified?

As a matter of fact, we became a creator of this specific Fungi in the Lab.

By nurturing it, letting it grow under quality-like circumstances and giving it its nutruitions, it is all human made. It may began as a small spore coming from a mushroom bought in the supermarket, but it did develope in the lab for peronal advantages to make art.

Looking at other man-made products, that are not as sustainable as the Fungi, it is much better than the usages of plastics.
